Questions

Capo and transpose, in short

Where should I put my capo?
Where the song's chords turn into you already know. The finder ranks every by how many chords become open shapes, so B♭, Gm, E♭ and F become G, Em, C and D with the on fret 3.
Does a capo change the key?
Yes. Each fret raises everything by a , so G shapes with the capo on fret 2 sound in A. Players name the shapes; the band hears the real key.
How do I transpose a song?
Move every chord by the same number of half steps, keeping each chord's type. The transposer does that and spells the chords for the new key, so B♭ up two half steps is C, not B♯.
